The initial meeting with an Estate Planning attorney will most likely be informative for YOU and a precursor to your providing information to the attorney, however, there are a few things you should be prepared to talk about so that your attorney can answer questions and provide information tailored to your specific situation.
Specifically, you should consider/bring the following:
Goals
You should consider what your priorities and goals are, if you are married or have a partner —it’s good for the two of you to jointly consider what your goals are.
Assets
You need to be able to discuss your financial situation —my clients sometimes come with an asset listing and I find that very helpful to give us a launching point.
Prior Estate Planning
This should be number one but I saved it for last because folks remember best the last thing you tell them ☺ Make sure you bring copies of all your existing estate planning —even if you don’t think it’s relevant.
